Netflix has finally dropped the first trailer for Ryan Murphy's highly anticipated new series, The Politician - and fans are extremely here for it.
Starring Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Lange, the series is the first to be delivered as part of Murphy's lucrative new deal with the streaming giant - a five-year contract .
The series follows Platt as the over-ambitious Payton, who has his eyes set on becoming US president one day - but not before he becomes president of his high school class. Facing off in the student elections against Astrid (played by Lucy Boynton), Payton's road to success hits a bump when it's revealed that his running mate, Infinity Jackson (Zoey Deutsch), once made a gay slur.
Jackson's mother, played by Murphy go-to Jessica Lange, doesn't get why the slur is such a big deal.
“I don’t understand why calling a gay man a ‘butt munch’ was such a scandal,” she says in the trailer.
“That’s what gays do. Munch butts and celebrate Halloween.”
Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, the series is expected to be a dark, comedic take on the high school experience.
Aside from The Politician, both Falchuk and Murphy are involved in the upcoming installment of which is set to focus on the Bill Clinton impeachment.
The Politician premieres September 27 on Netflix.
