The Annual General Meeting of the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria will take place at the end of the month.

Highlights
  • The Greek Community of Melbourne will hold its AGM on 28 January
  • Pre-bookings required both for physical and virtual attendance
  • The organisation’s real deficit for 2020 was smaller says the treasurer
Due to COVID-19 limitations on number of people allowed indoors, attendance is also accessible via a ‘virtual’ Zoom link.

Members need to register as soon as possible, advises GOCMV treasurer Dr Marinis Pirpiris, noting that places for physical attendance are limited.

The virtual attendance option he says, is in par with the organisation’s commitment in being “progressive and always finding better ways to communicate with members”.

Reflecting on last year’s highlights, Dr Pirpiris refers in particular to the undisrupted education programs despite the challenges posed by the pandemic along with partnering with community groups for securing the continuation of Modern Greek at La Trobe.

The GOCMV was not unimpacted by COVID-19.
“We struggled too just like everyone,” Dr Pirpiris says but reassures members the deficit for the year is not concerning.

Dr Pirpiris says that although losses documented in the annual report amount to $473.000, they don’t reflect the real deficit which is significantly smaller, around $25,000.

The financial position of the Greek Community will be outlined during the Annual General Meeting to be conducted on Thursday, 28 January 6.30pm, at the Greek Centre168 Lonsdale Street.
