Just in time for Halloween, actor and all-round cutie Jonathan Groff has shared adorable footage from his childhood - dressed up as Mary Poppins.

Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote his new off-Broadway stage production of The Little Shop of Horrors, the Mindhunter star spoke about his childhood love for the Julie Andrews film, before playing a home video from when he was 3-years-old.

Oh, and he was a bit flustered. Why? Because the actor had met Julie Andrews for the first time only moments earlier, backstage.

“Have you always been a fan of Julie’s?” Stephen asked a visibly excited Groff.

“Not only a fan,” he replied, “but a deep, deep, deep fan, where when I was three years old, I dressed up as Mary Poppins for Halloween.”
Groff, who last year visited Sydney for the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, explained his costume in the video.

“I had lipstick on, and a hat, and my mum had a carpet bag," he revealed.

“We had the VHS of Mary Poppins, and my mum will tell you, I watched it every single day!”

Colbert was quick to point out that Groff had a great mum for nurturing his interests, even though they weren't stereotypical for a boy - and we agree.
