Players were placed in three categories - good, average and bad - based solely on their performances for their club this season and the impact they had on their side.
We placed players in the 'good' category if they either played the vast majority of matches for their club or made positive progress in their career.
'Average' was for players who were in and out of the starting XI, while 'bad' represented players who fell out of favour and will probably be looking to move on.
Good
Mat Ryan - Brighton & Hove Albion (England)
The 26-year-old would have been feeling the pressure at the start of the season, having joined the recently promoted side for a then record fee.
However, the former Central Coast Mariners goalkeeper thrived as Brighton survived the relegation battle to finish 15th. Based on goals conceded, Ryan lead the ninth best defence in the Premier League.
The Socceroos shot-stopper was also voted Brighton's player of the season by a group of supporters after playing all 38 Premier League matches while keeping 10 clean sheets.
Aaron Mooy - Huddersfield (England)
Mooy was in a similar situation to Ryan - joining a recently promoted Premier League team for a record fee.
But despite having the smallest budget in the league, Huddersfield managed to survive relegation, with Mooy at the heart of the action scoring four goals and making three assists in 34 starts.
The former Melbourne City midfielder scored in crucial early-season victories against Newcastle United and Manchester United.
Tom Rogic - Celtic (Scotland)
The 25-year-old once again proved his worth for Scotland's biggest team, playing against the likes of PSG and Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League while scoring against arch-rivals Rangers on four separate occasions domestically.
The fan favourite has attracted interest from England and could be on his way to the Premier League after the World Cup in Russia after playing 40 matches for Celtic this season, scoring eight goals and making nine assists.
Massimo Luongo - Queens Park Rangers (England)
The 25-year-old had one of his best season to date, winning the QPR supporters player of the season while leading the entire Championship in tackles with 149.
Luongo captained the side 11 times in his 38 starts to show his potential as a future Socceroos leader, as QPR finished the season mid-table in 16th.
Jackson Irvine - Hull City (England)
Irvine joined Hull at the start of the season for $3.3 million and by October became a regular in the starting XI as the club finished in 18th after being relegated from the Premier League the season before.
The Melbourne born midfielder played 42 matches in all, including an FA Cup match against Chelsea, scoring three goals and making six assists.
James Meredith - Millwall (England)
The 30-year-old left-back started every single match Millwall played in the Championship this season, and although the London club missed out on a play-off spot, they did have the equal fourth-best defence in the competition.
Brad Jones - Feyenoord (The Netherlands)
Jones wasn't as ridiculously successful as last season, but the 36-year-old did manage to play 42 matches as Feyenoord won the domestic cup as well as finishing fourth in the Eredivisie.
The former Liverpool 'keeper kept 14 clean sheets acorss all competitions, while he captained his side in a 1-0 loss in the Champions League against Manchester City.
Aziz Behich - Bursaspor (Turkey)
Behich started 33 matches this season, which included a real purple patch from October until December when he scored five goals in the space of six matches.
His side finished mid-table in 11th as he finished the season with five goals and two assists from left-back.
Ryan Edwards - Patrick Thistle (Scotland)
The former Perth Glory midfielder started 37 matches out of 45 for the Scottish Premier League side. However there is still work to do as Thistle have a two-leg relegation play-off starting on Friday.
Danny Vukovic - KRC Genk (Belgium)
The 33-year-old was voted the supporters player of the season after keeping 12 clean sheets in 43 starts for the Belgian first division side.
Genk are currently in the playoffs fighting for a Europa League spot.
Mathew Leckie - Hertha Berlin (Germany)
The right-winger had his best ever season in the Bundesliga, scoring five goals and creating one assist in 19 starts as Hertha finished mid-table.
The 27-year-old also managed a goal against Athletic Bilbao in his only start in the Europa League.
Mile Jedinak - Aston Villa (England)
The Socceroos captain initially started the season on the outer, but managed to force his way into the starting XI around December and has barely looked back.
Making 18 starts at a mixture of centre-back and defensive midfielder, the former Central Coast Mariners man once again proved he is one for the big occasion as he scored the only goal for Aston Villa in their crucial 1-0 play-off victory over the weekend.
Jedinak and Villa will now play Fulham in the promotion play-off final for a spot in next season's Premier League.
Robbie Kruse - Vfl Bochum (Germany)
Seven goals and six assists in 30 starts as his side finished sixth in the German second division.
Nikita Rukavytsya - Maccabi Haifa (Israel)
The 30-year-old produced 12 goals in 30 starts for Maccabi Haifa as they finished in the lower half of the table.
Milos Degenek - Yokohama F. Marinos (Japan)
Has been a regular starter at centre-back under former Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou, but it has been a rough start for Yokohama, only winning three of their first 14 matches and they have concended 22 goals already.
Mustafa Amini - Aarhus GF (Denmark)
Started 29 matches in the heart of midfield, scoring one goal and making seven assists, his side is still competing in the play-offs for a Europa League spot.
Callum Elder - Wigan (England)
The 23-year-old established himself as the first choice left-back as Wigan won League One and promotion to the Championship.
Elder started 30 matches, scoring once and producing three assists including one in a historical victory against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in the FA Cup.
Tomi Juric - FC Luzern (Switzerland)
Nine goals and six assists in 24 starts for the former Western Sydney Wanderers striker as Luzern secured qualification to the Europa League group stage next season.
Kerem Bulut - Menemen Belediyespor (Turkey)
Bulut had his most successful season in a while with nine goals in 23 starts as he established himself in Turkey's second division. His team made it to the promotion play-offs but were knocked out on the away goal rule.
James Jeggo - Sturm Graz (Austria)
The 25-year-old made 25 starts playing predominantly as a central or holding midfielder as his side finished second behind giants Red Bull Salzburg.
Should the former Adelaide United man stay, he will play in the Champions League qualifying matches next season.
Kenneth Dougall - Sparta Rotterdam (Netherlands)
The 25-year-old from Brisbane saw plenty of football in the top division, starting 31 matches and scoring one goal from a holding midfield position.
But it was a tough season for Sparta, they are currently in the relegation play-offs fighting for Eredivisie survival.
Average
Jamie Maclaren - SV Darmstadt (Germany) & Hibernian (Scotland)
Perhaps a touch harsh to put him in the average category as he finished the season so strongly - five goals in his last five matches including a hat-trick on the final day against Rangers. That gave him a total of eight goals in 15 matches for his time in Scotland.
However, his initial move to Germany did not work out at all - he failed to start a single match in the German second division and registered no goals in his seven appearances off the bench.
David Williams - Haladas (Hungary)
Seven goals and three assists in 18 starts in the Hungarian first division is a decent return for the 30-year-old, however, his side is just four points clear of the relegation zone with three matches remaining.
Brandon Borrello - FC Kaiserslautern (Germany)
The 22-year-old started the season on the bench, then forced his way into a regular started with some impressive performances which saw him score three goals and make eight assists in 18 starts.
The former Brisbane Roar man played a variety of positions, but it was a tough start for him as he ruptured his cruciate ligament towards the end of the season, and his club, who finished bottom of the German second division and will play next season in Bundesliga three.
Awer Mabil - Pacos de Ferreira (Portugal)
It was a mixed season for the 22-year-old, making 18 starts and a further 12 appearances off the bench leading to three goals and four assists.
His performances, as well as his personal story, saw him on the front cover of one of Portugal's biggest newspapers.
However, his club, where he is on loan, was relegated after finishing second bottom.
Cameron Burgess - Scunthorpe United (England)
The 22-year-old centre-back made 28 starts as Scunthorpe qualifed for the League One play-offs.
Tommy Oar - APOEL (Cyprus)
Started 15 matches and came off the bench a further eight times, and while he failed to score himself he did manage eight assists.
APOEL did manage to win the title, as they have done nine times in the last 12 seasons.
Trent Sainsbury - Grasshoppers (Switzerland) and Jiangsu Suning (China)
Joined from China in February, he has started eight games and impressed enough to captain the team on the last six occasions.
In his short stint, he has managed to help ensure his side avoids relegation as they sit seven points above the drop zone with one match remaining.
Prior to his stint in Switzerland, he played five times for Jiangsu Suning after he battled injury and selection issues.
Alex Gersbach - Lens (France) and Rosenborg (Denmark)
The 21-year-old saw limited game time in Denmark before moving on to France's second division in January.
He made 13 starts in France, as Lens finished in 14th, seven points clear of relegation.
James Holland - LASK (Austria)
Finished the season strongly, starting 14 of the last 16 matches and even managed to pick up three assists.
However injury hampered the first half of the season where he only managed three starts in the first 17 matches.
His club, which won promotion the season before ended up in fourth and qualified for the early stages of the Europa League.
Ajdin Hrustic - FC Groningen (Netherlands)
The 21-year-old had his best spell yet in the Eredivisie, starting 14 times and even managed a goal against PEC Zwolle.
His side finished midtable, but the young Aussie looks to have nailed down a regular spot in the starting XI as he was selected against big sides like Ajax and champions PSV Eindhoven.
Aiden O'Neill - Fleetwood Town and Burnley (England)
The 19-year-old played valuable minutes for the League One side but once returning to the Premier League club after his loan spell he failed to see any game time.
At Fleetwood, he made 18 starts, scoring one goal and making three assists.
Mark Birighitti - NAC Breda (Netherlands)
Started the season as the first choice goalkeeper, but didn't make an appearance after early February.
Managed two clean sheets in 15 starts as NAC survived relegation by four points.
Golgol Mebrahtu - Mlada Boleslav (Czech Republic)
Started the season well, scoring nine goals before the end of October, however, a length suspension and injury means he has fallen out of favour and hasn't played since March and hasn't completed 90 minutes since November.
Nine goals and one assist in 17 starts as his team finished 10th, five points above the drop zone.
Mitch Langerak - Levante (Spain) and Nagoya Grampus (Japan)
Left Stuttgart in Germany for Levante in Spain but did not see a minute of action in La Liga and only made the bench twice.
A single start in the Copa del Rey was his only appearance and he went to Japan in January where he has performed admirably.
So far he has played every match for Nagoya, keeping three clean sheets but his side his bottom of the table having conceded 27 goals in 14 matches.
Langerak has produced some brilliant saves in those 14 matches.
Mark Milligan - Al Ahli (Saudi Arabia)
Hard to judge this one due to the small sample size, Milligan joined from Melbourne Victory in January and has played in every match since.
His side finished second and qualified for the Asian Champions League, with Milligan making 15 starts in all competitions.
Craig Goodwin - Sparta Rotterdam (Netherlands)
13 starts, the last of which came in December, for a side that battled relegation all season.
He scored two goals but was released by the Eredivisie side at the end of the season after falling out of favour.
Bad
Brad Smith - Bournemouth (England)
The 24-year-old's seasons was predominantly ruined by a hip injury. He failed to play a single minute in the Premier League and only managed three appearances all season in the domestic cup competitions.
With two seasons left on his contract it will be interesting to see if the young Aussie moves on in search of more regular first-team football.
Tim Cahill - Millwall (England)
A Socceroos and Millwall legend, but his return to his first club in England was far from spectacular at least on the field.
The 38-year-old made no starts, came off the bench 10 times for a total of 63 minutes in the Championship.
His final appearance saw him retrospectively banned for three matches after a shocking stray elbow.
Adam Federici - Bournemouth (England)
The 33-year-old did not play a single minute for the Premier League side this season, in any competition.
He has one year left on his deal.
Ryan McGowan - Bradford City (England)
Played just three matches after joining the League One side in January.
Kwame Yeboah - SC Paderborn (Germany)
The 23-year-old managed two goals in 11 matches in the German third division where he was on loan from Bundesliga side Borussia Mochengladbach.
Hard to see him cracking into Gladbach's first team next season based on those numbers.
Nick Ansell - Tondela (Portugal)
Injuries limited the former Melbourne Victory defender to just 10 matches as his side finished mid-table in Portugal's first division.
