A final lap crash marred the victories of Chloe Hosking and Nick White as the 2020 Bay Crits look set to go down to the wire on the final day in Williamstown.

UPDATE from the crash yesterday:

Molly Patch is recovering from a bent but not broken collarbone. Emma Chilton has bruises and won’t race today. Shannon Malseed remains in hospital with a broken scapula and waiting surgeon’s advice.

As Hosking crossed the line with her arm in the air, her Lexus team mate Shannon Malseed was caught up in a crash at the back of the course.

The 2018 Australian national road champion was conscious but in distress, her injuries requiring medical attention for close to an hour out on course before an ambulance transported her to hospital for further treatment and diagnosis.

Molly Patch (Applesec) and Emma Chilton (Roxsolt Attaquer) were also caught up in the crash but were treated on site.

The injury status of all three riders is still not confirmed but early signs point to a suspected summer-ending shoulder injury for Malseed.

"I spoke with Shannon when I went into the hospital and she was sore but in good spirits," race director John Trevorrow said. "It appears she has damaged her shoulder and we are still waiting for a full medical report.

"It is a tough sport bike racing but we hate to see an accident - she was in a lot of pain. She’s a tough cookie but it was upsetting, especially for Sarah Gigante because they’re close."

While new race leader Hosking's victory has set up an exciting showdown tomorrow (Sunday) in Williamstown with today's runner-up, Ruby Roseman-Gannon (Applesec) - the pair both on 20 points - her thoughts were with Malseed.

"She’s in the hospital, I don’t know about her injuries. I’m a bit worried for her, I don’t think it’s great," she said.

"How good is it, [Ruby is] so young and taking it to the old girls, so it will be really exciting tomorrow.

"I have a really strong team here to help me so it would be really nice to keep the yellow tomorrow but it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve lost it in Williamstown so I’m pretty mindful of that."

The men's race will also be decided in Williamstown as today's winner and new race leader Nick White (Bridgelane) sits on the same points as yesterday's victor Sam Welsford (Lexus) who finished fourth.

"It will definitely be a challenge tomorrow," the reigning Australian under 23 road champion said. "By no respect am I going to think it’s going to be easy to hold onto this jersey but we’ll give it everything we’ve got and go down swinging."
