NITV’s flagship news and current affairs program The Point returns in 2019 at the new timeslot of 8.30pm Wednesdays.

Rachael Hocking and John Paul Janke host the weekly hour long panel show, alongside key commentators and high-profile personalities who tackle the stories and issues impacting First Nation Australians today. The program will also cover topics ranging from social media trends, the arts, environment, science, technology and music.

“It’s such an honour for Rachael and I to again have the opportunity to lead those important and sometimes sensitive discussions that our communities want discussed – and discussed from their perspectives and narratives,” John Paul Janke said.

“Once again we plan to disrupt the mainstream with stories and investigations told our way. On the desk JP and I won’t hold any punches as we unpack the issues that matter to our mob,” Rachael Hocking said.

Each week, a network of NITV journalists and correspondents from across the country, including Karla Grant, Natalie Ahmat, Ryan Liddle, Kris Flanders, Douglas Smith, Nakari Thorpe (ACT), Madeline Hayman-Reber (Victoria), Ella Archibald-Binge (Queensland) and Rangi Hirini (Western Australia) will deliver agenda-setting original journalism, special investigations and the latest news.

The Point will kick off from Wednesday 23 January with a special episode named IProtest, which will take an in-depth look at historic reactions to Indigenous protests and news coverage from the last three years surrounding the ‘Change the Date’ movement. The program will feature a panel of speakers including Jack Latimore, Carla McGrath, Stan Grant and Celina Edmunds.

Watch The Point at 8.30pm Wednesdays from 23 January on NITV (Ch. 34).
