Aboriginal Victorians are being urged to put their hand up to help shape treaty negotiations with the state government.
More than 30 Traditional Owners have already nominated to stand as candidates for the First People's Assembly, with voting due to open next month.
"The opportunities treaties offer us and everyone in Victoria are immense - if we grasp this historic moment before us," the Victorian Treaty Advancement Commission said in a statement.
Voting had been due to open in July during NAIDOC week but nominations were extended until Friday and the ballot delayed until September 16.
The 21-seat First People's Assembly will replace the Treaty Advancement Commission and work with the state government to design ground rules for negotiations.
Candidates for the assembly will need to verify they are a Traditional Owner.
Aboriginal Victorians as young as 16 and Traditional Owners who no longer live in the state can vote online, via post or in person for five weeks until October 20.
