The breakfast show created by Aboriginal people is back again to deliver the important stories to TV sets across the country every morning for NAIDOC Week, and they've announced a new co-host.
Big Mob Brekky is returning for the second year to bring the best First Nations yarns, plenty of black secrets for anyone wanting to learn more about First Nations culture and all complemented, of course, by some proper lovely feeds for everyone tuning in.
Everyone can look forward to waking up to a cuppa with some of their favourite NITV faces for NAIDOC Week, and with hosts like Shahni Wellington and Ryan Liddle it was hard to believe the cast could get any more loveable…
Then…
NITV dropped the bomb nobody was expecting.
A third host!
He loves photography, he dislikes chocolate, his first job was a bank teller - and he has also been recently announced as the weekend lunch presenter on Triple J.
His name is Tyrone Pynor.
Tyrone will join the desk for Big Mob Brekky this year, a role he says is a dream come true after working behind the scenes on the inaugural season of the show.
“I am very very excited. When they announced BMB last year it was the first year they’d done it. It was the first-ever blak, First Nations Breakfast show. So it was sort of a big deal last year. And I wanted to be a part of it somehow,” he said
Pynor was ecstatic to announce his new involvement with the first of its kind morning show, which came in the same week he was able to announce his new gig at Triple J’s national youth broadcast program.
The rising media star says he’s proud to work alongside two presenters whose work he has watched and admired.
“I look up to how they can spin a yarn and how they can turn this beautiful story into something that you’re able to digest and really experience on a different level," he said.
"So words can’t describe how excited I am to be alongside them helping facilitate these important conversations and bringing these stories to life.”
With Torres Strait Islander heritage from his Grandmother and his Mum from Papua New Guinea, Pynor says he’s proud to be able to represent all of his people on screen.
“Little brown boy here look representing, not only mob, but Pacifica mob as well from Mums PNG roots. All the little kids out in Western Sydney, that’s where I grew up and reppin all my LGBTQ plus mob as well, you know. So really stepping into this role with power and strength for all of them, and hoping to pathe pathways and open doors.”
Tyrone said a lack of representation on TV for him was the greatest motivator for stepping into a new space in the media industry.

“Growing up and you're watching breakfast shows, I know in my experience you watch these breakfast shows, you see these presenters that are on screen, they don’t look like you, they don't talk like you, you know they don't dress like you," he said.
"You Got these cooking segments and they’re making this food and you're like “what’s that?”you know what i mean?"
So, this whole week is dedicated to bringing the community to the Telly, to your living room.”

The newest presenter for Getaway Matty Mills will be bringing Hollywood to the studio as the Big Mob Brekky Entertainment Reporter, the hilarious Steph Tisdell will be providing a daily dose of comedy, Gabriel ‘Bush Tucker Bunjie’ Willie will have one eye on the sky as Weather Reporter, gaming and tech expert Rae Johnston will be popping by to bring expert opinions to daily panels, former NRL star Dean Widders will keep audiences updated on the sporting world while the legendary Mark Olive will be getting stomachs rumbling with daily cooking segments.
The panel will again check in with First Nations media partners across Australia to see what’s happening in their patches, there will be Indigenous tourism suggestions from on Country with Bianca Hunt, and crucially, we will have our fingers on the pulse with the most updated news as the country deals with another outbreak of the coronavirus.
