A root-and-branch review of Australia's complicated taxation system won't be on the agenda for a Labor or coalition government.

Treasurer Scott Morrison promised on Friday the government would "get straight back on with it" if elected on July 2, having already undertaken a review through the abandoned tax white paper process.

His Labor counterpart Chris Bowen told the National Press Club debate Mr Morrison's claim there was a review behind budget measures was laughable, while ruling out revisiting a root-and-branch review under Labor.
