The South Korean army has responded to North Korea's latest missile launch with live fire drills that included the launch of several guided missiles.
The South Korean navy and air force conducted the drills in the Sea of Japan, a South Korean defence ministry spokesperson said.
The Yang Manchun destroyer, the Chunbuk frigate and another 13 warships took part in the manoeuvres along with Lynx helicopters, P-3C Orion surveillance aircraft and FA-5, F4E and KF-16 fighter jets.
Several anti-ship missiles, including Haeseong and Harpoon, as well as the AGM-65 Maverick air-to-ground missiles were launched during the exercises, which simulated an attack by sea.
The manoeuvres come just two days after North Korea launched its first intercontinental ballistic missile and a day after the militaries of South Korea and the US conducted missile tests in response to Pyongyang.
On Wednesday, the two allies carried out multiple missile launches in the direction of the Sea of Japan, including the South Korean ballistic model Hyunmoo-21, which has a range of 300 kilometres , and the American Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS).
The latest North Korean missile launch shows the country has the technology to manufacture missiles capable of travelling between 7,000-8,000 kilometres, enough to reach parts of the US, according to the South Korean army.
