Australian actress and comedian Rebel Wilson is suing magazine publisher Bauer Media over a series of articles she says defamed her.
Wilson, who starred in SBS shows Bogan Pride and Pizza before launching a successful Hollywood career, claims print and online articles published by Bauer's various glossy titles made her out to be a serial liar.
According to a writ filed in the Victorian Supreme Court, Wilson said her reputation and credit had suffered, and she had been humiliated and embarrassed.
Bauer Media is the publisher of Woman's Day, The Australian Women's Weekly, NW and OK Magazine.
Wilson is also suing for special damages, claiming she missed out on roles, and others were terminated because of the articles.
Wilson said the stories that appeared last year accused her of lying about her age, background and name, as well as creating stories to make it in Hollywood.
Wilson also said the articles were timed to coincide with the release of Pitch Perfect 2, to attract maximum attention nationally and overseas.
The writ, made available on Monday, claims she was not contacted before publication of the articles. Bauer Media Pty Ltd and Bauer Media Australia Pty Ltd are named as defendants.
In a statement, the group said it "has not been served with a Writ by representatives of Ms Wilson. If and when it is served, we will take the opportunity to consider our defences."
"It would not be appropriate for Bauer Media to comment further whilst this matter is before the court and the Writ is yet to be served."
