The appearance of a series of swastikas on a mural and a shop in Sydney's east is being investigated by police.
Officers were called to Queen Elizabeth Drive on Bondi Beach early on Sunday following reports of malicious damage.
A section of a mural had been defaced with about 20 symbols, a police spokeswoman told AAP.
Three further symbols were also located at a shop in Bondi Junction.
Wentworth MP Kerryn Phelps and Liberal candidate for the federal seat Dave Sharma also took to Twitter to criticise the graffiti.
"The Wentworth community is united in outrage by the news that 30 swastikas were graffitied on the murals around Bondi Beach overnight. There is no place for anti-semitism in Australia," Dr Phelps said.
"What an abominable, intolerant and shameful act. Anti-semitism, racism, and hatred in all its forms has no place in our community," Mr Sharma said.
Mayor of Waverley John Wakefield said the council and community of Waverley stood united against anti-Semitism and racially-motivated crime.
"We understand the extreme distress, anguish, fear and disgust that the swastika can elicit especially within Australia's multicultural community and amongst all fair-minded people," Mr Wakefield said in a statement.
"Racism has no place in our culturally diverse community and we condemn last night's incident in the strongest terms," he said.
Cleaning staff are removing the graffiti from affected parts of the Bondi Beach sea wall and Ebley Street in Bondi Junction.
CCTV footage is being reviewed and staff are working with police, Mr Wakefield said.
Vic Alhadeff, chief executive of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, labelled the graffiti as "despicable".
"All well-meaning Australians will condemn this," Mr Aldadeff said on Twitter.
