Neither major party will commit to sending voters back to the polls if the July 2 vote returns a hung parliament, despite both planning to govern alone.
The coalition and Labor have ruled out forming government with the Greens, with Shadow Treasurer Chris Bowen declaring it took two to tango and "we're not on the dance floor".
Treasurer Scott Morrison told the ABC on Tuesday a hung parliament would result in a period of "great instability" while dismissing Mr Bowen's denial his party would partner with the Greens.
