A "beautiful and perfectly formed baby boy" died of brain injuries received during and just after his birth at his parents' home in northern NSW, a coroner has found.
The parents had been warned against their February 2015 home birth plans after the baby was found to be in a transverse or "sideways" position, Deputy State Coroner Harriet Grahame said on Wednesday.
She stressed the rights of women to decide how they will give birth and recommended the development of guidelines for GPs to assist and support them in advising patients in relation to requests for non-hospital births.
