Home auctions were stronger in every Australian capital city last week, despite public holidays reducing the number of properties going under the hammer and potential buyers.
The national clearance rate across the capital cities was 80.8 per cent in the week to March 12, up from 74.6 per cent a week earlier, latest data from CoreLogic shows.
Just 1,402 auctions were held around the capitals in the week, sharply lower than 2,907 a week earlier.
CoreLogic said the fall in volume was due to a public holiday on Monday in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory.
A spokesperson told AAP that, generally, less auctions are scheduled on long weekends with many would-be buyers leaving town.
Auction clearance rates rose to 83.1 per cent in Sydney, 83.3 per cent in Canberra and 84.3 per cent in Melbourne, but were the strongest at 87 per cent in Adelaide.
