Former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull and Treasurer Josh Frydenberg test positive for COVID-19

The former Liberal Party leader is experiencing "moderate" symptoms, while Josh Frydenberg said he is isolating with his family.

Former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has tested positive for COVID-19.

"Like hundreds of thousands of other Australians I have tested positive for covid. Symptoms moderate so far. Isolating as required," Mr Turnbull wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

"This pandemic and especially this latest wave has put our health professionals under enormous pressure - please be polite and considerate when dealing with the front-line health workers.

"...They have had two years of relentless pressure and it’s now at its most intense. So give them the love and respect they deserve, please."

It comes after Treasurer Josh Frydenberg confirmed he had tested positive for the virus.

In a tweet on Friday night, he said he had "the common symptoms" and was isolating with his family.

"My thoughts are with all those who have COVID - this is a difficult time but we will get through this," he added.
In a reply to Mr Frydenberg's tweet, Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers said: "Sorry to hear it, Josh. All the best for a speedy recovery."

In March 2020, Peter Dutton was the first federal MP to be diagnosed with coronavirus.
The current Defence Minister was briefly hospitalised after waking up with a temperature and a sore throat.

Mr Dutton said he had no idea how or where he picked up the virus but believes it was in the US where he had been attending meetings.

"But I was pretty, you know, pretty militant about the hand sanitiser," he added.
