More than 50 dodgy family day care providers have been busted for fraud, over-charging and providing false documents.

The Child Care Enforcement Action Register has been updated to include 53 providers around the country who have had their access to government subsidies cancelled or suspend.

They got caught fraudulently obtaining payments when they weren't entitled and making false documents.

"Those dodgy family day care providers who circumvent the rules no longer have anywhere to hide," Federal Education Minister Simon Birmingham said on Tuesday.

"We've introduced new integrity measures and ramped up compliance checks to over 3800 per year.

"It's clear our action is weeding out those looking to take advantage of families and rip off taxpayers."

The government says the crackdown, which involves an online register, has saved $1.8 billion since 2014.
