Forty-seven new COVID-19-related deaths were reported in Australia on Saturday.
Victoria recorded 24 fatalities, while there were 12 in Queensland, 10 in New South Wales and one in the Northern Territory on Saturday.
In Victoria, 5,721 new virus infections were recorded.
The number of Victorians in hospital with COVID-19 has risen by five to 250 patients on Saturday.
This includes 28 patients in intensive care and eight on ventilation.
Active cases in the state have dropped below 40,000 to 39,556 cases.
Meanwhile, NSW reported 10,017 new COVID-19 cases.
The number of positive cases is up by 551 from Friday when 9,466 people tested positive.
Health officials say there are 995 virus patients in NSW hospitals on Saturday.
Of these, 45 are in intensive care and 18 are on ventilators.
Queensland recorded 12 fatalities, 4,152 new COVID-19 infections and there are 276 people hospitalised with the virus.
A man in his 50 passed away with COVID-19 in the Northern Territory.
The man was from a remote community in East Arnhem and had underlying health conditions, the NT government said in a statement on Saturday.
The Territory reported 386 new cases of COVID-19, taking the number of active cases to 3,478.
There are currently 48 patients in hospital, with eight patients requiring oxygen. There are two patients in ICU.
In the ACT, there were 696 new cases and 39 people with COVID-19 in hospitals.
Of those, two are in intensive care, one of whom is ventilated.
Tasmania reported 941 new infections, and 16 people are hospitalised with the virus, eight of whom are being treated specifically for COVID-19.
South Australia reported 1,861 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. There are 100 people in hospitals across the state, of which 10 are in ICU and two on ventilators.
Meanwhile in Western Australia, the health department reported 2,289 new cases of COVID-19, taking the number of active cases in the state to 10,866.
