Registration for Overseas Pakistanis kicks off to vote in upcoming by-elections

Election Commission of Pakistan website says by-elections taking place in Pakistan on 14 October 2018 will include votes from Overseas Pakistanis. Earlier Supreme Court of Pakistan had asked ECP to provide the option of voting to overseas Pakistanis.

Overseas Pakistanis around the world can now register to vote for the upcoming by-elections in Pakistan.

Election Commission of Pakistan now provides the link to voting website, from which Pakistanis outside the country can register and vote in their relevant constituency.

According to the , voting option for Overseas Pakistanis is called 'ivoting'. The website says, 

"iVoting (Internet Voting) is an online voting service. Using this service, Overseas Pakistanis can cast their vote online in their respective constituencies from anywhere in the world using any internet-connected device."

For an overseas Pakistani to be able to vote, following are the requirements outlined on the website:

  • Possess National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistani (NICOP)
  • Possess Pakistan Machine Readable Passport (MRP)
  • is a Registered voter in the mentioned constituencies (as outlined on the website
The website also provides the option of checking eligibility through NICOP number.

The registration for voting starts from the 1st September and ends on 15th September 2018.

Voting will take place on 14th October 2018 during 8:00 am to 5:00pm  (Pakistan Standard Time).
