Pakistani passport holders in Australia – especially those not residing in Canberra and Sydney – had a sigh of relief when it was announced that they can get their passports renewed online.
Now you don’t have to worry about making special arrangements to visit the embassy in Canberra or the government office in Sydney. However, you still have to be aware of the whole process to ensure you don’t encounter any problems.
Here’s everything you need to know about renewing your passport online:
Machine Readable Passport
First things first, you can only renew your passport if it is machine readable. If not, you will have to personally visit the government office and get it renewed. Moreover, you can only renew your passport if it is expired or valid for less than seven months.
Internet Browser
Make sure you have an updated internet browser. The eportal works well on almost all the browsers but some video tutorials are not compatible with Internet Explorer and Google Chrome.
Documents
It’s a good idea to have all the supporting documents with you before you start your application. The following documents are mandatory
- Copy of your CNIC
- Copy of your old passport (first two pages)
- Attestation form for minors (in case of minor)
- NOC (In case of employee of the Government of Pakistan)
Minors
If the applicant is less than 18 years of age, the following documents may be required in addition to the mandatory documents:
- National ID Card copy of parents
- Copy of Computerized B- Form
- Copy of Death Certificate if mother or father has passed away
- Guardianship certificate
Government Employees
If the applicant is an employee of the Government of Pakistan, the following documents will be required:
- No-Objection Certificate(NOC) for Government Employee
- No-Objection Certificate(NOC) for Armed forces employee
- No-Objection Certificate(NOC) for employee of Autonomous Body
Photograph
You need a photograph of up to 5MB. Apart from ensuring you don’t exceed the size limit you also have to take care of certain requirements while capturing the photo.
Your photos must:
- Not be more than 6-months old
- Be in sharp focus and clear
- Be taken against a plain white background
- Must show a close-up of your full head and shoulders
- Must be only of you with no other objects or people in the photograph
Fingerprint Form
You will need to download a fingerprint form, which is to be filled accordingly. Make sure you don’t leave any required field blank. Otherwise your form will be rejected. You will also need to ensure that you scan your form at a certain resolution (600dpi, JPEG and in grayscale).

Credit/Debit Card
You should have a valid credit or debit card to pay the application fee. There is no refund policy so make sure you have put all the details correctly.
Application Duration
Once you have all the documents ready, you can log on fill the form. The government suggests it will take approximately 16.5 minutes to complete the whole process.
