A man wanted in relation to a fatal double shooting in Sydney has been found dead this morning, police said.

NSW Police will address the media at 10am today after the man's body was found inside a Normanhurst home, about seven kilometres from the scene of the initial killings.

The suspect fled after a teenage girl and boy were shot dead in Sydney's north-west on Thursday night, in what police described as a "horrific" domestic violence-related shooting and a "targeted attack".

It's believed he is the father of the children and aged in his 50s.

Officers were called to a home in Hull Road at West Pennant Hills about 5.20pm on Thursday after reports of shots fired.

The teens were found dead in a bedroom of the home, NSW Ambulance Inspector Kevin Sweeney told reporters at the scene on Thursday evening.

"When ambulance paramedics arrived ... we were confronted with an extremely distressing and stressful situation," he said.

"Two teenagers were unfortunately deceased in their bedroom and unfortunately at that time there was nothing we could do to help them."

Their mother, 36, arrived shortly after police and was treated by paramedics for severe shock.

ABC reports the victims were a 15-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden said the attack was believed to be domestic violence-related, adding emergency services had arrived to a "horrific scene".

"It was a very harrowing experience for the emergency services who responded," he said.

"You've got a family that is going to struggle to come to terms with it and emergency responders will struggle to come to terms with what they have seen."

A local resident John Howard, who lives just 50 metres along Hull Road from the house, said he was shaken.

"I could hear the police helicopter and then I saw it all over the television," he told AAP.

"It's a friendly, quiet street."

Another resident, who described the area as friendly and safe, said it was an "unbelievable tragedy".

"I feel so shocked. Kids are innocent. Whatever the reason, kids shouldn't suffer," she told AAP.
