Sri Lanka wins gold medal in Asian Athletic Championship after 8 years

The 22nd Asian Athletic Championship concluded last Sunday (9th July) in Bhubaneshwar, India. Sri Lankan athletes managed to secure 5 medals in total at the championships and won a gold medal after 8 years.

Opening day of the competition Sri Lanka’s Dilhani Lekamge has won the silver in Jeveline throw event and final day of the competition Sri Lankan athlete was able to secure 4 medals. Sri Lanka’s Nimali Liyanarachchi won gold medal in women’s 800M race and Gayanthika Abeyratne won silver in that event. Due to technical fault that Nimali was awarded the gold medal after India’s Archana Jadhav who originally won the race was later disqualified from the event. Moreover Rumeshika Rathnayake has won  Silver Medal in the Women’s 200m race  and Sri Lanka’s 4X400m men’s relay team has won silver in their event.
