The Prime Minister says the vast majority of Australians are pleased with the government's proposed changes to citizenship requirements.
It's being proposed that people will have to face a stand-alone English language test, have been a permanent resident for four years instead of the current one year, and commit to embracing Australian values in order to get citizenship.
The existing citizenship test will also be amended, and it will canvass issues such as domestic violence, child marriage, and female gential mutilation.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has told the A-B-C Australia is catching up with the rest of the world with the proposed amendments.
