Multicultural Community Ambassadors from the Melbourne Indian and Sri Lankan communities attended the official launch of the inaugural Big Match Party, part of the Sri Lankan community night at the Melbourne Stars v Sydney Thunder Big Bash League match on January 20, 2018
The Big Match party will include a march from Richmond Station led by the Sri Lankan Papare band leading to a Sri Lankan community party on the MCG concourse including a Baila dancing competition with prizes for the best men, women and couples.
Following the party in the MCG precinct, the Sri Lankan community will then come together in a dedicated fan bay at the MCG to cheer on the Melbourne Stars. During the match, the in-stadium DJ will feature Sri Lankan classic baila songs to entertain the crowd combined with the Papare band playing at the back of the fan bay.
Clint Cooper, CEO of the Melbourne Stars was the key speaker on the night and said: “On behalf of the Melbourne Stars, we look forward to welcoming the Sri Lankan community at the MCG for another great season of Big Bash.”
