ਭਾਰਤ-ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਵੰਡ ਇੱਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਾਸੂਰ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦੀਆਂ ਤਕ ਰਿਸਦਾ ਰਹੇਗਾ। ਜਿਉਂ-ਜਿਉਂ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦੇ ਪੰਨੇ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹਦੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ, ਨਵੇਂ ਨਵੇਂ ਸਵਾਲ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਗੇ।
ਭਰਪੂਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵੰਡ ਦਾ ਦੁਖਾਂਤ ਹੱਡੀਂ ਹੰਢਾਉਂਦਾ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਉਝੜਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ 32 ਸਾਲ ਸੀ।
ਰੌਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਿੰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਰਦਨਾਕ ਦਾਸਤਾਨ ਓਹਨਾ ਐਸ ਬੀ ਐਸ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਵੰਡ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਓਂਕਿ ਫਿਰਕੂ ਦੰਗਿਆਂ ਨੇ 5 ਤੋਂ 10 ਲੱਖ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਾਨਾਂ ਲਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ 2 ਕਰੋੜ ਹਿੰਦੂ, ਸਿੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਖਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੰਗਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਕੱਟੜਵਾਦੀ ਜਮਾਤ ਆਰ ਐਸ ਐਸ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਸਲਿਮ ਲੀਗ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਕੁੰਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।

At an age of 103 years, Bharpur Singh is the oldest Punjabi living in Australia.
Mr Singh, who was thirty-two-year-old at the time of Partition, still remembers the heart-wrenching details of pre and post-Partition events that led to the greatest mass migration of history.
Mr Singh's family had to flee to India from the newly-formed Pakistan in 1947.
"It was one of the saddest moments of my life. I saw brutal killings, women being raped, and there was no one to control the rioters,” he said in an interview with SBS Punjabi.
“It was a very shameful and disgraceful period of Indian history. It was a total chaos.
“The India-Pakistan line was drawn based on religious grounds. Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs were killing and looting each other.
“The religious fanatic groups were mainly responsible for the brutal killings. The mobs bragged about their associations with Muslim League and Hindu hardliner RSS group.
“On the journey, we saw dead lying in ditches along the road and floating in the canals.
“We somehow reached Amritsar, which was again a land of chaos and the roads were full of rioters.
“More than 5 Lakh people were brutally killed and more than 1.4 Crore were displaced during the Partition.
“The memories are still vivid. I don’t want to remember these horrors but this is something which is not fading away.”
The Singh family later moved to Australia after suffering heavy losses in the 1984 Sikh Massacre, which was a series of pogroms against Sikhs in India by anti-Sikh mobs in response to the assassination of Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards.
