The Sikh community that is feeling traumatised by the attack has banded together under the aegis of 'Sikhs for Indianapolis' to raise funds to assist the families of those who died or sustained injuries or suffered trauma as a result of the incident.

This fundraiser has so far raised USD 48,500 of its $100,000 goal through the help of around 500 donors.

"As members of the Sikh community in Indianapolis, we were saddened and shocked by the FedEx shooting that took place on Friday, April 16, 2021," the group said in a statement on the GoFundMe page.

"In Sikhi, we say "Chardi Kala". By aiming to keep our thoughts in Chardi Kala, it means we think of ourselves less and instead focus on how we can help others as a positive force in their lives and in the community," read a part of the statement.

The money raised will be administered and distributed by the National Compassion Fund (NCF), a charity group that is also crowdfunding for the FedEx shooting victims through a separate initiative, - the Indianapolis April 15th Survivors Fund.
FedEx has donated $1 million to this fundraiser, which has collected over $1.3 million as of April 22 out of its initial $1.5 million goal.
"The fund will provide direct financial assistance to the families of those who were killed, and individuals injured or suffering psychological trauma from the shooting, which claimed the lives of 8 associates," GoFundMe said in a statement.

"The priority is to give the victims' families the long-term help and support they'll need in the years ahead," NCF mentioned on the fundraiser page.

Set up by Gurleen Gill, niece of 48-year-old Amarjit Sekhon, who lost her life in the mass shooting, funds raised through this initiative will be distributed to victims' families to assist with burial costs and to the survivors to pay off their medical bills.

At the time of writing this article, the fundraiser had collected around USD 150,000 with the help of over 2000 donors.

"I write this message with a heavy heart as I sit with my family trying to wrap our heads around this tragic and heartbreaking event," Ms Gill wrote on the GoFundMe page.

"My aunt Amarjit was an amazing mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, and loving friend. She will be greatly missed, but her memory will live on in our hearts forever. We love and miss you. Amarjit leaves behind two beautiful boys who will be looked after by their father, who struggles from partial paralysis," she added.
