A performance between Shirin Majd, her ensemble and dancer, Kooch fuses traditional and new songs from the Farsi, Turkish, Spanish, and English languages.
Ms. Majd leads the collaborative project as artistic director and performer. She is an Iranian born singer who left Iran in 2011 to further her studies in operatic soprano voice at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in Australia.
She says her migration was instigated by the fact that in Iran performance opportunities are not allowed for female singers.
The word Kooch in Farsi means, “migration,” and is presented as an artistic performative and visual experience with collaborator, Mastaneh Nazarian (composer).
Since arriving in 2011, Shirin Majd has been active across Australia and internationally as a performer, artistic director, composer.
The Sweet Sound Ensemble is a collaboration with musicians in and around Brisbane. Musicians include Martin Kay, Benjamin Shannon, Zachary Sakrewski, Padraig Parkhurst, and dancer Sevinc Huseynli.
