NSW

An Aboriginal man in his 50s has passed away overnight in the town of Wellington in Western NSW. He was being treated for COVID at Wellington Health Service, and he was fully vaccinated.

New South Wales has crossed over the 70% double-dose vaccination rate overnight, the first milestone on the state’s roadmap out of lockdown.

However, when looking at the double-dose rate for the state’s Indigenous population,

it sits at just under 54%, lagging by over 16%.

The state has recorded 587 new cases of community transmission to 8pm last night, and 8 deaths, including a man in his 20s who passed away in his home in Western Sydney.

The Western NSW Local Health District recorded 7 new cases — 3 in Bourke, 2 in Dubbo, 1 in Wellington and 1 in Walgett.

The Far West Local Health District recorded 2 new cases, both in Broken Hill.

Several LGAs have had their lockdowns extended until next Monday October 11. These are the Oberon and Snowy Monaro LGAs, as well as the towns of Menindee and Sunset Strip in the Central Darling Shire LGA.

Victoria

In Victoria there were 1638 new locally acquired cases recorded overnight, and a further 2 deaths. This brings the state’s total active cases to 15,074.

Regional Victoria recorded 115 new cases, including 17 in Mitchell Shire, 16 in Geelong, 15 in Latrobe, 11 in Mount Alexander, 11 in Baw Baw and 11 in Shepparton.
