NSW records 863 new cases of community transmission
Victoria sets record-high 950 new daily cases
Three LGAs entered lockdown overnight — Port Macquarie and Muswellbrook in NSW, and Latrobe in Victoria

NSW

New South Wales has recorded 863 new cases of community transmission to 8pm last night, as well as 15 deaths.

There were 11 deaths throughout Greater Sydney, and one each in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Dubbo and Bateman’s Bay.

The Port Macquarie and Muswellbrook LGAs have entered a seven-day lockdown effective from 6pm last night. Meanwhile, Kempsey’s stay-at-home orders were lifted at midnight as scheduled, along with Byron and Tweed.

However, the LGA is still being monitored closely, with stay-at-home orders likely to be reintroduced if case numbers rise.

The Western NSW Local Health District recorded 24 new cases — 16 in Wellington, 5 in Cowra, 2 in Oberon and 1 in Walgett.

Victoria

Onto Victoria where there were 950 new locally acquired cases to midnight last night, bringing the state’s total active cases to 9890. The state also recorded 7 deaths — 5 in Hume, and 2 in Whittlesea.

Regional Victoria recorded 30 new cases — 9 in Mitchell Shire, 4 in Warrnambool, 4 in Latrobe Valley, 2 in Dandenong, 2 in Moorabool, 2 in Wellington, 1 in Strathbogie, 1 in Surf Coast, 1 in Ballarat, 1 in Murrindindi, 1 in Corangamite, 1 in Baw Baw and 1 in South Gippsland.

This brings the total active cases across regional Victoria to 225.

The City of Latrobe has entered a seven-day lockdown as of midnight last night in response to growing case numbers in the LGA, currently sitting at 22 active cases.

Acting Chief Health Officer Professor Ben Cowie has encouraged residents of Latrobe to get tested, get vaccinated, and follow the public health orders over the next seven days. He also made reference to the lockdowns in Ballarat and Geelong as recent success stories.
