An Aboriginal man in his 40s with COVID has passed away in Dubbo overnight. He was being treated at Dubbo Base Hospital, and he was unvaccinated.
He was one of seven COVID patients to pass away in the state yesterday as New South Wales recorded 863 new cases of community transmission to 8pm.
The Western NSW Local Health District recorded 21 new cases — 11 in Wellington, 4 in Narromine, 1 in Bathurst, 1 in Bourke, 1 in Cowra, 1 in Dubbo, 1 in Oberon and 1 in Orange.
The Cowra LGA stay-at-home orders have been extended until 12.01am next Tuesday, October 5th, due to high ongoing risk of transmission.

The Far West Local Health District recorded 5 new cases — 4 in Wilcannia and 1 in Broken Hill. All were household contacts of previous cases.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard confirmed that the Tweed and Byron LGAs will come out of their stay-at-home orders as scheduled at midnight tonight. However, the only mention of the Kempsey LGA, which went into lockdown at the same time, also scheduled to lift at midnight, was that it was being looked at closely for an extension of its lockdown.
Victoria
In Victoria there have been 867 new cases of community transmission, bringing the total number of active cases to 9261. There were also four deaths overnight, including a woman in her 50s from Whittlesea.
Regional Victoria recorded 28 new cases — 12 in Latrobe Valley, 5 in Mitchell Shire, 2 in Baw Baw, 2 in Geelong, 2 in Shepparton, 1 in Corangamite, 1 in Gannawarra 1 in Macedon Ranges and 1 in Warrnambool.
There was also 1 reported in Horsham, however that’s the residential address of a person known to have been in Melbourne for the duration of their illness, where they also likely contracted it.
Due to a counting error, almost 150 additional cases were not included in the previous two days’ reported daily case numbers. 9 cases were unreported on Sunday, and 140 cases were unreported on Monday.
Health Minister Martin Foley has said this was due to a software update by a third party vendor that interrupted communication with the government. He also said that everyone who was tested still received their results, both positive and negative, without delay.
