NSW

New South Wales recorded 293 new cases of community transmission to 8pm last night, and 2 deaths.

The Hunter New England Local Health District recorded 79 new cases overnight, accounting for over a quarter of all the state’s new cases. There were 18 in Lake Macquarie, 17 in Newcastle, 11 in Tamworth, 8 in Port Stephens, 7 in Maitland, 6 in Cessnock, 5 in Midcoast, 2 in Dungog, 2 in Moree, 1 in Armidale, 1 in Singleton and 1 in Tenterfield.

The Western NSW Local Health District had 6 new cases — 4 in Bathurst, 1 in Oberon and 1 in Walgett.

The Far West Local Health District recorded no new cases overnight. There are now just 14 total active cases in the district.

Victoria

Onto Victoria where there were 1932 new locally acquired cases recorded to midnight last night, and 25 deaths. It was the deadliest day of COVID-19 in any state since the pandemic began.

Regional Victoria recorded 324 new cases overnight, including 50 in Geelong, 38 in Wodonga, 33 in Latrobe, 31 in Shepparton and 10 in Mildura.

There are now 255 active cases across Greater Shepparton, and 153 in Mildura.

Acting Chief Health Officer Professor Ben Cowie announced in a press conference today that Wodonga would be receiving additional testing kits and teams this weekend. This is in response to a surge in both cases and a demand for testing by the community.
