NSW records 1035 new cases of community transmission
Ballarat to exit lockdown at midnight tonight
Victoria records 628 new locally acquired cases

NSW

New South Wales has recorded 1035 new cases of community transmission to 8pm last night, and 5 deaths. This includes two people at Wollongong hospital, a woman in her 80s from Wollongong, and a man in his 70s from Kiama.

The Western NSW Local Health district recorded 9 new cases overnight — 4 in Dubbo, 3 in Wellington, and 2 in Walgett.

Health District CEO Scott MacLachlan also confirmed details of another death in an aged care facility that will be included in tomorrow’s numbers. The woman who passed away was in her 90s, and a resident of St Mary’s Villa.

The Far West Local Health District recorded 3 new cases, all of which were in Broken Hill.

Victoria

In Victoria there were 628 new locally acquired cases today, and a further three deaths in metropolitan Melbourne.

Regional Victoria had 11 new cases — 4 in Mitchell Shire, 2 in Geelong, 2 in Moorabool, 1 in Macedon Ranges, 1 in Wangaratta and 1 in East Gippsland. However, the East Gippsland case is just someone whose residential address is in East Gippsland. They’re currently residing in NSW, and also acquired COVID in NSW.

Deputy Premier James Merlino confirmed that the Ballarat lockdown would be coming to an end at midnight tonight. Health officials have said that they believe they’ve got the virus under control in the area. Ballarat will rejoin the rest of regional Victoria in their less strict public health measures. A reminder that masks are still mandatory in all indoor and outdoor public venues.

Melbourne has also been affected by a 5.8 magnitude earthquake at 9.15 this morning. The epicentre was near the town of Mansfield, 130km north-east of Melbourne’s CBD. It’s so far resulted in 46 reports of building damage.

Additionally, protests continue in the CBD for a third day over the government’s two-week shutdown and vaccine mandate for the construction industry.
