The latest news on the current Delta strain outbreak affecting regional NSW and Victoria's Indigenous communities.



  • Wilcannia recorded 0 new cases for the 14th consecutive day, and all known COVID cases have now recovered from their infection
  • The outbreak in Mildura has crossed over 100 active cases, reaching 113 as of today

NSW

New South Wales has recorded 360 new cases of community transmission to 8pm last night, and 5 deaths.

The Western NSW Local Health District recorded 11 new cases — 4 in Orange, 4 in Wellington, 2 in Walgett and 1 in Collarenebri.

The Far West Local Health District has recorded 1 new case in Dareton. 

Residents of Wilcannia have reason to celebrate today after reaching two weeks straight with no new cases recorded. making today the first day since August 17th that the town has been COVID-free.

Victoria

In Victoria there have been 1466 new locally acquired cases to midnight last night, and a further 8 deaths, including a man in his 40s from Bayside.

Regional Victoria recorded 110 new cases, bringing the total number of active cases in Victoria’s regions to 1144. Among the new cases today are 24 in Mildura, bringing the total active cases in that outbreak to 113. 

3300 COVID tests have been undertaken in Mildura over the last three days, representing about 10% of the area’s population.
