JobKeeper Payment information for employees

The government has introduced the JobKeeper Payment scheme to support businesses significantly affected by the coronavirus to help keep more Australians in jobs If you and your employer meet the JobKeeper eligibility rules, and they have enrolled for the scheme, you should already be receiving payments of at least $1,500 (before tax) per fortnight from your employer.

The ATO has important tips for employees about the JobKeeper Payment:

If your employer chooses to participate and you are an eligible employee, they must provide you with a JobKeeper payment – employee nomination notice (in English). If you agree to be nominated by your employer you need to sign the form and return it to them promptly so they can make a JobKeeper claim for you.
• It’s optional for your employer to participate in JobKeeper. If they don’t participate, they can’t claim JobKeeper on your behalf.
• If you’re eligible and normally receive less than $1,500 (before tax) per fortnight, your employer must pay you at least $1,500 (before tax) per fortnight in order to receive JobKeeper on your behalf.
• You can have two or more jobs, but only one employer can claim JobKeeper for you. If you have both a permanent job and a casual job, you can only agree to be nominated by your permanent employer. You can do this by completing the JobKeeper payment – employee nomination notice (in English) for your permanent employer.
• JobKeeper is treated as income for the purposes of social security payments. If you’re receiving income support, you’ll need to report the income you receive through JobKeeper to Services Australia. If you don’t report the income or cancel your JobSeeker payment, you may incur a debt that you’ll be required to pay back.
• The ATO will never send you an email or text message asking you to send your personal information by email or text. If someone contacts you asking for money or your personal details, be careful as it might be a scam.
