“What are the Korean audiences’ reactions to the controversy over an Adelaide butchery's signage of 'Non Halal Certified?”
The SBS Korean Program audiences have responded variously to the article on Adelaide butcher refuses to remove ‘non halal’ sign after it was found to be offensive.
An audience with ID ‘Leo Kim’ has left a comment on SBS Korean SNS, “It is obvious (for the butcher) to make fun of halal food.”
Hyeri Kay points out: “The problems is that the controversial phrase to the store widow was surrounded by images of kangaroos and emus, which are the icons of Australia, so as to imply that a shop without halal certificate is an authentic Australian butchery.”
However, some audiences have expressed their antipathy or apathy with the issue saying “It is cannot be regarded as religious discrimination. It can be accepted as a simple message to inform their customers.”
