[Pros and Cons of the Week] “Why doesn’t QANTAS launch the direct flight to S. Korea?”

A Korean audience named Suzie Lee has raised on SBS SNS that the everlasting moratorium on direct flights to S. Korea from Sydney by QANTAS has brought about the monopoly by the KAL and the ASIANA.

The comment was left in the wake of the article “Korean Air will increase its nonstop Incheon-Brisbane service to seven flights a week from the end of October.

“It will bring Brisbane in line with Korean Air’s other Australian route from Incheon to Sydney, which runs daily.”

The audience pointed out “the more direct flights, the cheaper and better services, preventing from passengers brush off against another in a plane.”

Australia used to have direct flights to S. Korea operated by the QANTAS and the crumbled ANSETT Australia.

Meanwhile, the necessity for the direct flight between Melbourne and Incheon has been brought to the audiences’ attention.

Kyle Lee commented “Go for Melbourne.  It is the second largest city in Australia.”

Min McGregor has also expressed the same opinion on the need for the direct flight between the two nations, highlighting that there are many Korean speaking people living there.

Sangho Hwang argues in his comment “even though airfares for the direct flights to Korea (by the KAL and the ASIANA) are quite expensive, the prices become very competitive if you fly to Europe by way of Incheon.”

Most of audiences have responded to the articles with their anger or grievance over the dearer airfares due to the de-facto monopoly indulged by Korean airlines.
