More than 60,000 illegal migrants overstaying their visas

The federal opposition says reports that more than 60,000 people in Australia have overstayed their visas.

A Daily Telegraph reports that there are now 62,900 illegal migrants, most of them tourists and students in hiding. Now their visas have expired.  

A quarter of the unwanted migrants came from Malaysia or China, but eight per cent (5,170) are Americans and six per cent (3,680) are British.

A third of overstayers had been in Australia illegally for at least a decade and a 18,750 illegal migrants have lived in Australia for at least 15 years.
