World No.1 Ashleigh Barty has survived a first-set stumble to secure to an Australian Open first round win over Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 victory at Rod Laver Arena.

She says “It's amazing to be back out here. Obviously it's a tight turnaround from Adelaide, but, you know, really nice to kind of sort it out a little a bit more at the stare of the second set there, sharpened up and did what I needed to do."

Novak Djokovic won the first game with a hard-fought 7-6(5) 6-2 2-6 6-1 success over Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round while Roger Federer made light work of Steve Johnson with a near effortless 6-3 6-2 6-2 victory.
