Tasmania is one of the Australian states to have adopted the most severe measures to counter the spread of COVID19. Over the last hours, new cases have been confirmed, raising the number of infected people to 80.
Tourism is a vital sector for Tasmania's economy and with the closure of many accommodation, restaurants and catering establishments, many entrepreneurs have been forced to close their businesses and many inhabitants of the island have lost their jobs.
Among these also Sara Lucchesi who, like her husband, is currently out of work. Yet the Italian considers herself lucky compared to other Italians in the country because, as an Australian citizen, she can access some public subsidies.
In the meantime, she has also decided to foster four dogs, to keep company in quarantine time.
Sara manages the Facebook page 'Italians in Tasmania', and told SBS Italian how the local Italian community is facing quarantine.
