While the number of new cases is at a minimum, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has urged Australians not to let their guard down.

The descending parable of COVID-19 cases in Australia continues: there were 76 victims, 6,661 confirmed cases, with an increase of 12 new cases between 21 and 22 April, 2020 (numbers updated to 24/04/2020).

The state with the highest number of infections remains New South Wales, with 2976 cases, followed by Victoria (1337), Queensland (1026), Western Australia (546), ACT (104). South Australia (438), Tasmania (205) and Northern Territory (28).

While the number of new cases is at a minimum, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has urged Australians not to let their guard down. According to Morrison, the measures taken have been effective and the country is close to gradually easing the restrictions.

During a press conference, Morrison and the treasury minister, Josh Frydenberg, provided data on the effectiveness of economic measures by speaking of a "COVID-safe economy".
