New COVID-19 restrictions come into force today as Victoria struggles to contain community outbreaks.

People in a series of regional areas will not be allowed to visit people or have visitors in their home.

And from Monday all people living in regional Victoria will have to wear a face covering when leaving their homes.

The number of people losing their lives to the virus in Victoria continues to grow with another 13 deaths. 10 of those were linked to the outbreaks in aged care homes.

A man in his 50s from the town of Portland in the state's west died last night so his death will be included in today's numbers.

In New South Wales, another three venues have been added to the list of pubs, clubs and restaurants attended by people with coronavirus.

The Harpoon and Hotel Harry in Surry Hills, Matinee Coffee in Marrickville and Tan Viet in Cabramatta have all been closed for cleaning and contract tracing.

From tomorrow hygiene marshals will be required at all New South Wales gyms to ensure equipment is cleaned properly and social distancing takes place.

Residents in metropolitan Melbourne are subject to stay-at-home orders and can only leave home for essential work, study, exercise or care responsibilities. It is also mandatory to wear masks in public.

People in Australia must stay at least 1.5 metres away from others. Check your state’s restrictions on gathering limits.
