The Indonesian government has issued regulations on Visa on Arrival (VoA) for foreign tourists wanting to visit Bali. It comes into effect on Monday 7 March.
Australian passport holders are one of 23 nationalities that eligible for this visa.
Previously, foreigners who wanted to visit Indonesia for tourism purposes had to apply for a tourist visit visa which required the country's travel agency or hotel to become a guarantor or sponsor.
Agus Abdul Majid is the Consul of Immigration at the Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney, representing the of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
He says to SBS Indonesian that the Indonesian government has evaluated the previous tourist visa scheme and decided to re-impose the Visa on Arrival.
Mr Majid emphasises that this VoA policy is limited only to the arrival of foreign tourists at the country's international entrance in Denpasar, Bali, with several other requirements include having to have a return ticket and proof of accomodation for at least 4 days except for those who reside on the island.
He adds that foreign tourists must also comply with the regulations of the COVID Task Force in the country, although now quarantine requirement has been revoked for those who have double COVID vaccines.
