The incidence of slavery and exploitation in Australia is increasing during the pandemic, especially among temporary migrants.

Groups trying to combat modern forms of exploitation or slavery say the pandemic has made the situation worse for millions of vulnerable people around the world - including Australia.


The Migrant Worker Justice Initiative recently released the results of a nationwide survey of international students and other temporary migrants.  Seventy per cent of respondents had lost all or most of their work during the pandemic, leaving them struggling to pay for the basics and open to exploitation. What assistance is available for those people.
