On the 17th of August the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra celebrated Independence Day. In the current context of combatting COVID-19, attendance was lower but the spirit was just as strong. The theme of the celebration, “Indonesia Moves Forward,” was brought into sharper focus. Does Indonesia’s 75th Independence Day anniversary signal a chance to make “Indonesia Moves Forward” a reality?


Indonesia’s future is in the hands of its youth and their readiness to compete.  It is also in the hands of the Indonesian diaspora and includes co-operation with Australia.  The Indonesian Ambassador to Australia Drs Yohanes Kristiarto Soeryo Legowo looks to a positive future.
