At the end of January 2021, Nunuk Nuraini died. She was the creator of the distinctive flavour of Indomie’s famous mi goreng. As a taste-maker, just how important was she in the global growth of the Indomie brand brand that is produced by the Indonesian company Indofood?


During the pandemic, some businesses have suffered, but Indofood’s profits have continued to grow.  The popularity of its products like Indomie Mi Goreng is an extraordinary global phenomenon.  Dr Donny Pasaribu, an economist at the Australian National University explains the growth of Indofood as well as Nunuk’s role in the emergence of that phenomenon.
