With the borders closed, the state government wants locals to help fill those roles.


Tasmania’s borders will stay shut until at least December 1st, and the state government is encouraging locals to apply for the harvesting jobs usually done by backpackers and international seasonal workers. 

But some farmers are worried there won’t be enough locals to get the work done … and when the pandemic began, more than one thousand international workers were left stranded in Tasmania.
