Learning to swim may not seem like a priority when settling in Australia. However, the reality is that people born outside of Australia are overrepresented each year in our drowning statistics.

In Australia swimming is a vital life skill.
Learning to swim at any age can not only prevent you from drowning but can also protect your family and help you participate confidently in life in Australia.
Every year the Royal Life Saving Society Australia publishes a National Drowning Report.
The research shows that drowning rates in multicultural communities are very high, and their knowledge of safety near water is still very low.
Most Australian-born children have access to school swimming programs and public water safety programmes.
And most Australians live on coastlines or have access to swimming pools, and view the water as utilitarian and recreational. However, this is not always the case in the CALD (Culturally and linguistically diverse) community.
