In times of emergencies related to floods, storms and other natural events, volunteers play a vital role in responding to aid across Australia. How do I join the Emergency Services of their state or territory? What are the duties of the volunteers expected and what skills do they need to have before joining?

State Emergency Service (SES) is the name used by a number of organizations in Australia that provide assistance during and after a major incident.
Specifically, this service deals with natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes and tsunamis, but can also assist in other emergencies, such as vertical rescue and road accident rescue, search for missing persons, and medical evacuation.
Each jurisdiction in Australia has its own State or Territory Emergency Services.
In another scenario, the SES may provide a support role to other agencies, particularly the police and firefighters.
