Scamwatch is a website maintained by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and provides consumers and small businesses with information on how to identify, avoid and report fraud.
The website has received more than 6,415 reports of fraud linked to the coronavirus with more than $9.800,000 in losses reported since the COVID-19 outbreak began.
The Digital Health Agency warns consumers to be wary of scammers who offer the use of fake vaccination certificate generators online.
Fraudsters can also create websites that look legitimate, and impersonate governments, businesses or even friends.
They can also collect information about the person they are targeting so that before they make contact, they can provide some information about you, which makes them more convincing.
Scammers have also created fake online stores that claim to sell products that don't exist — from drugs or vaccinations for COVID-19, to products like face masks.
