New South Wales and Victoria have joined Western Australia and the A-C-T in revising its COVID-19 reinfection period from 12 weeks down to four.

There is renewed concern that the new Omicron sub-variant is causing a greater burden on healthcare. Two new COVID-19 subvariants, BA.4 and BA.5 - which can cause reinfection in as little as four weeks.

Australia has seen a spike in the number of COVID-19 recently, and this has increased the pressure on the health sector.

Many cases in hospital have symptoms related to breathing problems.

This comes as Influenza and other winter viruses are spreading in numbers not seen since before the pandemic.
